San Jose, Calif. — AKM Semiconductor (AKM) has launched the AK4373, a 24-bit stereo DAC with advanced digital signal processing (DSP) and integrated speaker and headphone amplifiers. The low-power stereo audio DAC is designed for portable applications including Bluetooth headphones and personal navigation devices.

The headphone amplifier operates in either differential or single-ended mode, realizing high performance outputs when operating with a low-voltage power supply. A pseudo cap-less mode is also supported, eliminating large capacitors for AC coupling. Output power for the headphone amplifier ranges to 90 mW into 8 W. The mono BTL speaker amplifier drives up to 800 mW into 8 W.

With advanced DSP functions including high-pass and low-pass filters, stereo separation, 5-band EQ and ALC, the AK4373 provides advanced sound field effects for digital music sources. An analog mixing function enables beep sound inputs and external noise cancellation.

The AK4373 also features a power supply management function permitting control of circuits block by block, controlled via a 3-wire or I2C μC interface. The operating voltage of the analog core ranges from 2.2 V to 3.6 V, from 2.2 V to 4.0 V for the headphone/speaker amplifier, and from 1.6 V to 3.6 V for the digital interface.

The AK4373 is available in a 32-pin QFN package (5 x 5mm), consuming only 7 mW in playback mode.

Pricing: Starts at $1.14 in quantities of 10,000.
Availability: Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
Datasheet: AK373
