LONDON — Phitek Systems Ltd. (Auckland, New Zealand), a developer of audio noise cancelling chips and intellectual property, has said that its SmartJack active noise cancellation product has being installed into the double-decker Airbus A380.

The Airbus A380 made its first commercial flight on Oct. 25 with Singapore Airlines flying from Singapore to Sydney, Australia. The airplane provides seating for up to 853 people in full economy class configuration.

The SmartJack is used as standard in most of the world's commercial aviation fleet, Phitek said. The SmartJack is being supplied to the Airbus A380s through Panasonic Aviation Corp., which supplies 90 percent of the world's airlines with in-flight entertainment products.

Phitek, which commenced operations in 2000, is involved in the R&D and sale of audio enhancement technologies, audio products, PCB assemblies, ICs and ancillary test and measurement software and equipment.

The company, then known as Slab DSP Ltd., received New Zealand government grant aid to gets its first IC made in 2002. That chip was set to feature the company's proprietary and patent pending digital surround sound and noise cancellation systems and was specified for low-power consumer electronics applications such as MP3 players, laptop computers and cellular telephones.

In May 2003, the company changed its name and accepted an injection of capital while vowing to continue to work with established customers Matsushita Avionics Systems Corp., In-flight Peripherals Limited and Industrial Research Ltd.
